HOW TO FURNISH A HOME WORKSTATION

During the past year we had the chance to realise the importance of tailor-made spaces. The home, in particular, has become a working space that is often quickly arranged and cause of frequent distractions. How many times have you found yourself working on the couch with a blanket and your cat laying on your knees? At lunch time, during a business call, it was possible for you to see your partner cooking pasta in the background, right? The hammock in your garden appeared to be the perfect solution in the warm summer breeze, but your 10 minute break turned into a half afternoon break? If the answer is yes, this article is for you!

Remember: every space is right for remote working only if it is a well designed space. Whether you only need a laptop and a cup of coffee or simply a comfortable studio corner to welcome potential clients, it’s nice to take some care in your home office set-up. Functionality and aesthetics must always dialogue!

THE FIRST DOUBT IS WHERE TO PLACE THE DESK
From the living room to the kitchen or from the bedroom to the hallway, there is no privileged place to create a work station. The important thing is that this place has access to natural light for a good part of the day. Remember: NEVER place yourself against the light!
Opt for a narrow, but multifunctional desk. The ideal work surface should have a minimum length of 120 cm and a minimum width of 60 cm. Take a look at our new First Desk. Suitable for every space thanks to its minimalist design and small size. First is very easy to clean and to keep organised (thanks to its innovative gadgets, tidying up will become a pleasure).

If you are the type of person that tends to expand across surface, don’t worry, we have the right thing for you: Our Evolution Desk is perfect! Available in different finishes and sizes, it can also turn into a peninsula!

THE POSITION OF THE SCREEN IS IMPORTANT
The computer screen needs to be placed in front of you and never less than 50 cm from you. If you are using a laptop we suggest you use a stand like our Riki Monitor Stand so that the screen reaches eye level. Adjust the screen so its center corresponds to your eyes: by doing so you will avoid lowering your chin and therefore sitting in an unnatural position that, in the long term, could lead to inflammation in the cervical and lower back areas.

ORDER IS SYNONYMOUS OF CONCENTRATION: LIKE HIDING SOCKETS AND CABLES
Another matter that should not be underestimated are sockets, unaesthetic and difficult to hide. You wouldn’t want to work in an office full of tangled cables, would you? Don’t worry, our First Desk has an innovative cable grommet that will make you forget all of that and will give your Home Office a new look.

THE CHAIR MUST BE COMFORTABLE
The chair, other than being a piece of decor, has the important function of supporting your body throughout the entire working day. For this reason it must be chosen with great care and attention.
Modern chairs are not recommended for those who stay seated at the desk for many ongoing hours: opt for an ergonomic seat, with an adjustable backrest support. If you don’t want to give up on design, but also on your well-being, we suggest Clara, our nordic style chair: authentic, comfortable and functional, it will give your studio that extra touch without harming your health.

THE KEYWORD IS ALWAYS OPTIMISE
While working mess can easily be created: to avoid that chaos prevails on us we need to take advantage of every last wall space surrounding us, especially the vertical one. The wall in front of the desk (usually oppressive and sad) can be used to fix shelves of different sizes and height. Let loose your creativity and personalise your spaces according to your needs!
Take as an example our Iacopo wall unit cubes, their closed doors will keep your office nice and tidy. They can be used both vertically and horizontally. Iacopo wall unit cubes will allow you to create a unique and functional composition.

A small tip regards your wall colour shades: it is well known that colour can have a strong impact on our mood. A wisely chosen shade can positively influence us at a psychological level, whereas a wrong colour can cause negative feelings. Carefully choose how to paint your work spaces!

ACTUALLY, IT’S NOT NECESSARY TO OPT FOR ELABORATE BOOKCASES
Bookcases are very important pieces of furniture, not only because they give style and character to the room, but also because they add archiving space to your study corner.
The first misconception is that it’s thought that they must be decorated and elaborate: it doesn’t have to necessarily be like that. A bookcase with clean lines and a simple finish, like our double-sided Rachele bookcase, can be the best solution for you. It can be used as a normal wall bookcase or as a partition wall. Fixing it to the wall will be very easy and in no time you’ll have a brilliant space divider that can also be used to organise your things. The two central panels, not only give stability to the structure, but also create a visual interplay throughout the shelves giving your space a refined touch. Try for yourself!
